The Devon Family History Society, formed in 1976, now has a membership of over 5,000, making it one of the largest in the UK. The Society is a member of the Federation of Family History Societies, an international body which has over 200 member societies throughout the world. The Federation publishes many useful aids for family historians. Devon FHS is also a member of SWAG, the South West Area Group of FHSs, a regional group of 12 societies. Contact with other societies encourages mutual interests and reciprocal research. |

The Devon
Family Historian is quarterly journal with articles full of background information about the lives and times of Devon families and other information helping members to keep themselves well informed about developments in family history. Each edition includes names being researched by new members. |

| The society has an active programme of
transcribing, indexing and publishing Devon records. We have
compiled indexes of Devon marriages, burials, baptisms, census and
other local records. With over 500 parishes in Devon, the
completion of these projects depends entirely on volunteers -
please consider taking part in our project work, wherever you live.
