Devon Family History Society is encouraging children and young people to explore the past, record for the future and experience the joy of personal discovery by the provision of a free resource, both online and material, supporting Acorn Clubs in schools.
Family History can support, enhance and inspire many areas of the National Curriculum and personal development. Devon Family History Society is happy to offer this as a free resource to schools to be run by a parent volunteer or member of staff. We offer comprehensive back up of content, materials and advice, with adaptability for different age groups. Maggie is also available to come into schools to help facilitate this.
The successful pilot ran with five initial introductory sessions, but it is up to individual schools how they would wish to use the materials, depending on availability of time/staff .
Recognizing achievement is important, so certificates and badges could be awarded for completion of introductory sessions. Support to extend and explore further will be available.
If you are a school who may be interested in running an Acorn Club or need more information please contact: Devon Family History Society PO Box 9, Exeter EX2 6YP Tel 01392 433212. •acornclub@devonfhs.org.uk
