Occupational Costume 1776-1976 (Avril Lansdell)

Second Hand Book. A Shire Library Publication.

In our mind?s eye we all have a picture of different people at work and the kind of clothes they wear to do their particular job. Some worker?s like the postman and the fireman, wear a uniform that makes them instantly recognisable; others wear their own clothes with protective aprons and overalls on top of them. While not a uniform, these overalls are often distinctive. Yet other types of work demand a particular type of clothes or have come to have particular types of clothing associated with them. Omitting jobs that carry a uniform, this book traces the changes in basic working clothes and the particular types of clothes worn in certain well-known trades and occupations over the past two hundred years.
